Reiki is a form of natural, hands-on, energy healing system that has become very popular in the area of alternative health. Reiki is about healing mind, body and spirit as health in all three areas are essential to a balanced life.
Reiki is based on the concept of a Universal Life Force or Universal life energy that exists throughout the universe. This energy exists in all things and is why people often feel more refreshed when they are close to "old nature" such as in an ancient rainforest. This reiki energy exists all around us and is what makes us alive.
People also refer to vibrational evergy. Every part of us consists of energy down to the protons and electrons within the basic building blocks of our existence as we know it. Science readily accepts the vibrational energy that exists within these particles and the idea of reiki energy is merely an extension of this.
It is thought that Reiki originated in Tibet thousands of years ago. Reiki was re-discoverd by Dr Mikao Usui in Japan in the late 19th century. Dr Usui studied the system in conjunction with ancient Bhddhist teachings. Dr Usui found there were sounds and symbols which impacted on the universal life force and the energy vibrations within people and that these could be used for healing.
Reiki also works on plants and animals as everything is composed of the universal life force. Even though Reiki is a very powerful healing procedure, it has no side effects, (unless you want to call total relaxation a side effect).
What happens during a reiki healing session?
Firstly, it is important to identify that personal ego has no place in Reiki. The reiki practioner is merely channeling the energy. They are not healing the person. The person is using the reiki energy to heal themselves.
The healing reiki energy promotes relaxation. Reiki helps cleanse out the system and will help the body to fight and remove toxins. The reiki energy is also conducive to destroying energy blockages and generally improves your energy vibrational frequency.
During a Reiki treatment, the practioner places their hands on or above different parts of the body. There are a number of structured reiki positions although many people believe that such structure is not needed and the healing energy will flow to wherever it is needed in the body.
Out "instinct" or intuition tells us to concentrate our hands on the part of the body that we "feel" needs healing. As there is almost always a mental aspect to illness, it is very common to focus attention on the head and heart regions.
In a full treatment the practioner will cover almost all parts of the body spending anywhere up to 5 minutes with their hands over a particular area. The Reiki treatment is non-invasive and does not require the patient to remove any clothing. Over sensitive or personal parts of the body the practioner can simply have their hands above the body within the clients aura and energy field. A full treatment usually lasts up to 90 minutes.
The healing energy in reiki is a spiritual energy and comes from the universe surrounding us. It has its own intelligence and finds the places where it is needed. The Reiki energy is channeled through the reiki practitioner and into the patient. Because it is not the energy of the practioner being used, the practioner does not feel exhausted after the session. As energy flows through to the patient, more energy is drawn into the person administering the Reiki. If anything, the practioner feels more refreshed themselves after having all this wonderful energy flowing through them. They will finish the session brimming with life-force.
Conclusion
Not everybody or everthing can be cured or healed by reiki. There are some experiences in life that were simply mean't to be. They were pre-ordained to help you learn the lessons that you have chosen for this life. Even bad things, however unpleasant at the time, serve a purpose in your life. They all incorporate to make your life experience unique. How you deal with your life is how you learn.
